There are also particular shops known as Distro (Distribution Store). They offer home industry products with limited amout and the result those products become exlusive item. History Of Bandung

The Bandung city did not stand along with the formation of the Bandung Regency. The city was built by restraining time really long after the Bandung Regency stood. The Bandung regency was formed in around the middle of the 17th BC age, with the Regent first Tumenggung Wiraangunangun. He governed the Bandung Regency till 1681

Originally the Bandung Regency have capital city in Krapyak (now Dayeuhkolot) approximately 11 kilometre to the south from the centre of the Bandung city now.

When the Bandung regency was led by the 6th regent, namely R.A Wiranatakusumah Ii (1794-1829) that was called by “Dalem Kaum I”, the authority in the Indonesian Archipelago changed from Kompeni to the Dutch East Indies Government, with the first governor-general Herman Willem Daendels (1808-1811).

For the smoothness undertook his task in the Javanese Island, Daendels built the Pos Highway (Groote Postweg) from Anyer on the end west West Java to Panarukan on the end east East Java (approximately 1000 km). The development of the highway was carried out by indigenous people’s people under the command of their respective regional regent.

In the Bandung area especially and the Priangan area generally, the postal Highway will begin to be built mid 1808, by improving and widening the available road. In Bandung now, the highway was Street Jenderal Sudirman – Street Asia Afrika – Street A. Yani, continued to Sumedang et cetera. For the smoothness of the development of the highway, and so that the official of the colonial government finds it easy to visit the regent’s office, Daendels through the letter on May 25 1810 asked Bandung Regent and Regent Parakanmuncang to move the capital of the regency, respectively to the Cikapundung area and Andawadak (Tanjungsari), approached the Pos Highway.

Apparently Daendels did not know, that long before the letter went out, the Bandung regent has planned to move the capital of the Bandung Regency, in fact found the place that was good enough and strategic for the centre of the government.

The place that was chosen was the empty land took the form of the forest, was located in the West Bank the Cikapundung River, the south bank of the Pos Highway that was built (the centre of the Bandung city now). The transfer reason of the capital in part, Krapyak not strategic as the capital of the government, because of being located in the south of the Bandung area and often being flood-stricken when the rain season.

Around the year end 1808/awal in 1809, the regent as well as several of his peoples moved from Krapyak to the land the future new capital. At first the regent lived in Cikalintu (the Cipaganti area), afterward moved to Balubur Hilir, furthermore moved again to Kampur Bogor (the Gardener Kawung, to the Pakuan Building land now). Was not known definitely, how long the Bandung City was built. But, the city was built not on the Daendels initiative, but on the initiative of Bandung Regent, even the development of the city immediately was led by the regent.

In other words, Regent R. A. Wiranatakusumah II was the founder (the founding father) the Bandung city. The Bandung city was declared as the new capital of the Bandung Regency with the instruction on September 25 1810.

Bandung Place of interest

Around Dago area there is an interesting place to be visited, named Taman Hutan Raya Ir H Juanda or usually called Hutan Dago (Dago forest). It contains range of plants and in this forest visitor are welcome to enter Gua Jepang (Japanese Cave) that has the distance of 800 meters from the entrance.

Beside this cave, there’s also Gua Belanda (Dutch Cave). These caves are quite safe to visit and as previous Japanese and Dutch quarters they still keep historical objects from the First and Second World War. On the end of Gua Belanda. you still can see track / trail that goes along on the side of Cikapundung River up to Maribaya region.

After enjoying the beatiful scenery in Hutan Dago, visitor can also continue the journey by walking to the water fall nearby called Curug Dago. And still within this region of Hutan Dago, after an exhausting trip you can take a rest at Dago Tea House that usually hosts numbers of Bandung‘s cultural festivals.

Located on Jl Kolonel Masturi, Cisarua on the way to Cimahi you will find another tourist attraction called Little Farmer. This is a good place for family where all members of family can watch directly and even get involved to be a farmer. Some activities include feeding cows and another pets, milking cow, spreading vegetable seeds and also harvesting vegetable that can be done together with the whole family members and assisted by a guide. After that you can enjoy fresh pure milk and finally having lunch with are served in cottage right in the middle of the farm

Ciater

Ciater is famous for its hot water spring that believed can heal illness such as rheumatics and others. Usually this place is crowded on week end when the visitors will come and swim in this pool. The hot spring is built on 5 hectares wide. Apart if the hot water swimming pool, Ciater also offers numbers of bungalows inns and restaurants.

Maribaya

Maribaya with 5 hectares wide and located on 1.100 meters height above the sea level is situated in lembang. The distance between Maribaya and Bandung is 22 kilometers. The location is on a valley with a hot water spring 20 to 40 celcius degrees.

The weather around here is cool with temperature usually between 10 to 21 celcius degrees. Apart of Maribaya there is other hot water spring in Ciater.

Tangkuban Prahu mountain is Shaped like a downside boat, the volcano is called Tangkuban Parahu. Its height is about 2076 metres above sea level.

It temperature is about 7 degree up to 29 degree celcius and its humidity is 45% up to 95%. In addition to its beautiful panorama, Tangkuban Parahu is also well known for its legend namely Sangkuriang Legend, Sangkurian was a brave young man who fell in love with his mother, Dayang Sumbi. The almighty God did not agree with Sangkuriang’ s love because a son is forbidden to marry his mother.

Tangkuban Parahu is located 29 km at the north-side of Bandung of 13 km from lembang. It is located at the border of Bandung and Subang. This place was firstly known in 1906 based on the initiative of Bandung Vooruit, an organization made by Dutch people to help Bandung government especially at tourism sector.

There are 10 tourism site such as Kawah Ratu, Kawah Upas, Kawah Domas, Kawah Jurig, etc The craters were formed by Tangkuban Parahu eruptions in 1829, 1846, 1910, 1926 and 1929.

At Kawah Ratu, visitor can climb up to the Geology Station (volcano monitoring station) at the peak of volcano, or go down to Kawah Domas which is still active releasing sulfur fumes. Walking down Kawah Domas will make visitors tired but it will give memorable experience.

Local Legends Of Tangkuban Prahu

The name translates roughly to “upturning of (a) boat” or “upturned boat” in Sundanese, referring to the local legend of its creation. The story tells of “Dayang Sumbi”, a beauty who lived in West Java.     She cast away her son “Sangkuriang” for disobedience, and in her sadness was granted the power of eternal youth by the gods.    After many years in exile, Sangkuriang decided to return to his home, long after the two had forgotten and failed to recognize each other.

Sangkuriang fell in love with Dayang Sumbi and planned to marry her, only for Dayang Sumbi to recognize his birthmark just as he was about to go hunting. In order to prevent the marriage from taking place, Dayang Sumbi asked Sangkuriang to build a dam on the river Citarum and to build a large boat to cross the river, both before the sunrise. Sangkuriang meditated and summoned mythical ogre-like creatures -buta hejo or green giant(s)- to do his bidding. Dayang Sumbi saw that the tasks were almost completed and called on her workers to spread red silk cloths east of the city, to give the impression of impending sunrise. Sangkuriang was fooled, and upon believing that he had failed, kicked the dam and the unfinished boat, resulting in severe flooding and the creation of Tangkuban perahu from the hull of the boat.

GEOLOGIC SETTING: Patuha volcano is part of the volcanically active Sunda Arc, formed from the subduction of the Indian-Australian Plate beneath the Eurasian plate. Volcanism in this area began during the Upper Pliocene-Lower Pleistocene, and has given rise to the unique system of volcanos and crater lakes present today. The island of West Java alone is home to twenty-five (25) volcanos, five (5) of which contain crater lakes.

Kawah Putih Ciwidey have Two craters adorn the summit of Patuha Volcano. The dry crater of Kawah Patuha lies 600 meters northwest of Kawah Putih, a crater lake with approximately 8 meters of water depth.

Kawah Putih crater lake represents a relatively stable volcanic system, with no records of magmatic or phreatic activity since A.D. 1600. Nevertheless, magmatic activity manifests itself in Kawah Putih as the hyper acid lake water solution that results from condensation of SO2, H2S, and HCl gases near the lake bottom.

Hydrothermal water-rock interactions in the Kawah Putih system constitute a present-day example of volcanic ore-deposit formation. Precipitation of native sulfur and other sulfides from lake waters Kawah Putih Ciwidey Bandung Cool  have accumulated as extensive sulfur-rich sediments on the lake     bottom.

These sediments were mined during the first half of the 20th century and comprised 90% of Indonesia’s sulfur production at that time. Abundant seepage of Kawah Putih’s lakewaters into fractures is another mechanism of hydrothermal ore formation in the volcano.

Seepage of lakewater from Kawah Putih is also a concern to human health. This seepage acidifies the flank springs of Patuha volcano.

The flank springs feed the Ciwidey and Citarum Rivers, whose waters are used by local people for irrigation Kawah putih is located at Rancabali, about 44 kilometers from Bandung, Precisely at Sugih Mukti Village of Pasir Jambu district.

To main crater is suggested to use transportation, because its quite far about 5 kilometers from the main gate. Kawah Putih is opened at 7 am and will be closed at 5 pm from monday to Sunday. Surrounding kawah putih provides information center, mini mosque, food shops, toilet, souvenir shop, jogging track, live performance stage and brimstone cave.

Kawah putih is a crater lake of Patuha Mountain. its height is 2.434 meters above sea level. There is another crater named Kawah Saat. Its height is 2.194 m above sea level and it is located at the top of Patuha Mountain.
