East Kalimantan Indonesia General Information

East Kalimantan is provincial capital of Samarinda is one of the largest province in Indonesia. Its area is approximately 211,440 km ², or approximately one-half times the island of Java and Madura. East Kalimantan consists of four districts, namely Kutai, Berau, Bulungan District, and District Sand; and two kotrapraja, namely the Municipal Samarinda, Balikpapan and Municipal.

This province has limits as follows: the northern border with the State of Sabah (East Malaysia); Strait of Makassar, Celebes Sea, and Strait of Sulawesi in the east of South Kalimantan in the south; and Central Kalimantan, West Kalimantan, and the State of Sarawak (East Malaysia) in the West.

Approximately 81.71% of the East Kalimantan region is land, while the rest is ocean. Land area dominated by undulating topography, from sloping to steep slope, with the height and slope varied.

The potential of natural resources of East Kalimantan were abundant, such as gold, coal, oil and gas, and the result-abundant forests. Hundreds of the river are also scattered in almost all districts and cities, with the longest river is Mahakam River.

History Of East Kalimantan Indonesia

East Kalimantan, where there is believed to be the oldest Hindu kingdom in Indonesia, the Kutai. The Dutch began to come in and colonize East Kalimantan since 1844. Dutch colonial government formed the Federation of East Kalimantan, which is a combination of four kingdoms in East Kalimantan.

When the independence of the Republic of Indonesia padai on August 17, 1945, the Federation of East Kalimantan by law in Indonesia and the local residents did choose to join the Republic of Indonesia. Post-independence, the people of East Kalimantan also maintain its independence with the event “Sanga-sanga” also known as red-white event.

New East Kalimantan province was inaugurated into the month of January 1957. Area includes four counties and two municipalities.

There are three cultures that dominated public life in East Kalimantan Indonesia province. In the countryside, which still adhered to the culture is a culture of indigenous Dayak. Cultural beliefs fishing communities living in coastal areas, and some areas still adhered to the kingdom of culture.

East Kalimantan has a variety of traditional foods, especially those associated with fish, shrimp and crabs.
